Bayelsa Poll: Sylva, Dickson Seek Spiritual Help

Dickson, Sylva Poised To Win Rerun

Governor Dickson and Sylva have both vowed to win the election.
Ahead of weekend’s governorship election in Bayelsa state, the two major candidates, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and Governor Seriake Dickson of the Peoples Democratic Party, have taken their electoral campaigns to Calabar, the capital of Cross River state.

The both candidates are reportedly seeking for spiritual help from Olumba Olumba Obu, the leader of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star.

Speaking with National Mirror, a reliable source confirmed that Sylva met with Obu and pleaded for divine intervention to win the election.

During his visit, the APC candidate assured Obu of undisclosed appreciation, especially as the religious leader was embarking on building a project known as ‘Olumba Supreme Temple’.

Although Dickson had been baptized in the spiritual movement long ago, he also sent a team to the Brotherhood headquarters to seek for help.

On his part, the spiritual leader gave the both candidates the word of God which, he noted, was essential for them to succeed.

“They are both running neck-to-neck at the election. Both are equal. I did not announce to their different delegations who amongst would come out victorious because that would have caused disaffection in the minds of brethren who support them,” he said.

Obu also called on Nigerians to pray fervently, otherwise, the election may turn violent.

Although Obu has strongly cautioned that his spiritual organisation has nothing to do with politics, numerous politicians keep on visiting the Brotherhood headquarters seeking for spiritual help.

Speaking with Daily Trust about the upcoming election in Southern Ijaw local government area, a source who pleaded anonymity said:

“There is a serious political horse-trading going on in Southern Ijaw right now. They are going from community-to-community, house-to-house, talking to people.”

A source close to his camp revealed that Sylva is relying on the youths of the local government to win the polls. The source noted the former governor had made so many promises to the youth of the area if they vote for him and assist to become victorious.
