Exclusive: What I Do To Keep My Man - Fadekemi Momoh

Fast rising Nollywood actress Fadekemi Momoh is no doubt carving a niche for herself in the movie industry. Home from South Africa where she stayed for three years, Fadekemi talked to Naij.com about her trip, upcoming project and what she does to keep her man.

You have been off the screen for a while, what have you been up to?

Yes, I have not been around for a while now because I have been away in South Africa, for about three years. I got back to Nigeria two months ago and I have been moving from one location to another. I also had a couple of businesses I was running in South Africa. During my stay, I seized the opportunity to produce my own movie Angel in Disguise, which was shown on TV stations in the country.

What project have you embarked on since your return?

Apart from the ones I produced which is Thin Line (Atere), I have also featured in a new movie produced by Iyabo Ojo titled, Ishina.

What is your take on Yoruba actors who find it difficult to feature in English movies?

From the on-set, we have never put our mind into acting in English movies because we thought there was a kind of separation between us but when I saw my senior colleagues diverting, I told myself I can also do it. It is not about not being able to speak English because all it takes is to read, understand and act out the script given to you.

How would you rate Nollywood and how can it meet up with international standards?

At the moment, we are producing bigger movies like Hollywood. With government’s support, Nollywood will be an industry other countries will look up to. The only thing I know that can make us grow, although we have gone places, but what can make us grow is if the government can come into the Nollywood industry and support with funds.

What is the difference between the South African and Nigerian movie industries?

Production in South Africa is usually infused with a bit of English and their local dialect because in South Africa, they believe that most of their movies must have their language and most of their movies you see in cinemas, they always have their traditional and cultural movies in it. Like the one I did in South Africa, it’s partly English and partly South African language. But for Nollywood, we are also keeping up the pace with the technologies we now use, so both industries are doing fine.

What are your plans for 2016?

I am looking forward to producing my own English movie and by God’s grace, it shall be done.

Can you tell us about your tattoos?

That is kind of personal because when you have a man and he is crazy about something, you should do it for him so that some other woman will not do it on your behalf. I would say I did it for my man.

Are you married to him yet?

No, I’m not married but very soon by the grace of God because He is the only one that knows when the time is right.
